Webinar Thursday: Quality Jobs, Quality Care
On February 23, 2023, Consumer Voice launched its Dignity for All: Staffing Standards Now! campaign to amplify the voices of nursing home residents, direct care workers, and their advocates in support of the Biden Administration’s proposal to implement a minimum staffing standard in nursing homes. During the coming months, Consumer Voice will be hosting a series of events to highlight the importance of a minimum staffing standard.
This Thursday, March 9th at 2:00pm ET, Consumer Voice will be hosting a conversation with direct care staffing workers who are members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The webinar will feature a discussion with nursing home staff regarding what it is like to work in an understaffed facility and what a minimum staffing standard would mean to direct care staff in nursing homes.
A minimum staffing standard will address the long-standing job quality problems that plague nursing homes. On average, nursing home staff turnover is 52% each year, resulting from low wages, poor benefits, inadequate training, and little opportunity for job growth. The burden of providing essential and critical care falls mainly on women, a majority of whom are women of color, while they are treated poorly by nursing home owners and operators.
