Q&A Session Tomorrow on Financial Transparency in Nursing Homes Project

Is your organization interested in applying to work with Consumer Voice on its recently announced two-year grant from Arnold Ventures? Consumer Voice will be holding a webinar on February 28, 2024 at 4pm ET to answer your questions. This project will provide direct support, technical assistance, and training to two states interested in advocating at the state level for increased transparency and accountability in nursing home finances and ownership. Consumer Voice will work closely with selected state advocates to help them develop and implement state-level advocacy strategies to achieve increased transparency and accountability in nursing home finances and ownership. Learn more about the project.  Applications are due March 15.

Through this Q&A session, organizations interested in applying to work with Consumer Voice on this project will hear about project activities and be able to ask Consumer Voice questions before submitting an application.

New Podcast Episode on Family Caregivers and Family Councils

Podcast logoFamily caregivers have always played an integral role in promoting and achieving quality care for their loved ones living in a long-term care facility. The importance of the informal care and support provided by family members for a resident's physical, mental, and emotional well-being became abundantly clear during the pandemic when those essential supports were taken away during the pandemic. Yet, advocacy and engagement by family members benefits not only their own loved ones, but ultimately all residents in a long-term care facility. In our conversation with Marcella Goheen, a family member and advocate, we discuss how families can individually and collectively, through family councils, be a strong voice for quality and for change in nursing homes.

Proposals to Present at the Consumer Voice Conference Due Friday

Session proposals for the 2024 Consumer Voice Conference are due this Friday, March 1.

We are seeking proposals for conference sessions that create an engaging, informative conference agenda that provides resources, tools, opportunities for discussion, and strategies our attendees can incorporate in their life and/or advocacy.

Two easy steps to submit a proposal:

  1. Review the Call for Proposals and Presenter Requirements.
  2. Submit your proposal via Survey Monkey. NOTE: You will not be able to save incomplete submissions in SurveyMonkey, so you may want to review and print or save the PDF version of the proposal questions so you can plan your responses prior to starting the submission.

Resource Highlight: Family Council Center

Family members in a nursing home can join together to form a united consumer voice which can communicate concerns to facility administrators and work for resolutions and improvements by forming a family council. Family councils can play a crucial role in voicing concerns, requesting improvements, supporting new family members and residents, and supporting facility efforts to make care and life in the facility the best it can be.

Visit Consumer Voice's Family Council Center webpage for resources on creating a family council and how to make your family council effective.
